Mozart plays Salieri’s march for the King completely from memory (after hearing it played only once) and begins to improvise on it based on what he thinks sounds right, creating a far more beautiful composition out of thin air. The King and the rest of his court are in awe at Mozart’s skill, and Salieri watches, absolutely humiliated.
